Connect a Printer to Home Wi-Fi

Place the printer within reliable range of your wireless router and make sure both devices are powered on. Use the printer’s setup screen or the manufacturer’s installation utility to select the home network. Enter the network name and password exactly as configured, paying attention to capitalization and special characters.

Some printers support only particular Wi-Fi bands or security settings, so check the manual if the network does not appear. A router’s guest network may isolate devices from one another, preventing a computer from discovering the printer. Keep the printer and computer on the same suitable home network during setup.

Install the current printer driver or use the operating system’s supported setup process. A printer may appear offline if it has an old network address, is asleep, or joined a different network. Restarting the printer and computer can help refresh discovery, but first save open work and follow any instructions for safe shutdown.

If setup still fails, use the printer’s network status report or screen to confirm its connection. Avoid changing router security settings without understanding the effect on other devices. For a temporary workaround, a USB connection may be available, but check the model’s instructions. Record the successful network name and setup details for future troubleshooting.
